Branch Updates: (Gary Blau)

  • 2007 Workplan was emailed to the CCC.  It is an ambitious 24 page document which will allow the branch to continue to push the envelope in our Systems of Care work.  The new plan outlines multiple collaborative activities between committees of the CCC and will require a new level of cooperation and organization.

  • The 2007 Workplan will be placed on the web.  We are also finalizing the List of Accomplishments for 2006.  Once completed this will also be placed on the Web.  These documents will be utilized for social marketing purposes and reflect the diligent work of our partners and committees.  Kudos to all who have done so much this past year.

  • A list of required and encouraged meetings was sent to CCC members. Some grant sites have not budgeted for travel for training and are confused about what is required and what is encouraged.  Please read the list and add information or dates that would make the information less generic.  This needs to be done immediately as it will be shared at the Atlanta meeting with all sites.

  • We are excited about the grantee meeting Atlanta.  The meeting will include participants from the states involved in the transformation facilitation process with Georgetown.  NICWA will have a tribal site meeting.  It will be held on the 29th of January.  DB Consulting will be keeping folks on task.  On Tuesday January 30th there will be a meeting with the site evaluators to discuss new criteria for evaluation reports so that they are most helpful and get to sites in a timely manner.

  • Our CCC meeting will occur from 5:00-7:00pm on Tuesday January 30th.  Please remember that there is no food.  This will be a short, concise meeting so please arrive promptly.

  • Inquiries have been made by some legislature members regarding the Keeping Families Together Act.  The legislation would encourage states to have an infrastructure so that families do not need to relinquish custody of their children to get services.

  • Currently the federal government continues to function on a continuing resolution.  The current one ends on February 15th.  We have no more information on recision issues or if amounts will be funded as intended.

Draft Agenda for Tuesday January 30th 5:00-7:00pm CCC Meeting in Atlanta:

Sharing

  • Marie Morilus-Black shared that the new Commissioner for Mental Health in New York is Mike Hogan, formerly from Ohio.  She sees this as important for Systems of Care as Dr Hogan was Chair of the President’s New Freedom Commission, and is a supporter of Systems of Care who “shares the mission”.  Marie also spoke of the incredible support already underway in the Buffalo area for Mental Health Awareness Day.  It includes the efforts of 100 organizations that serve Children.  Marie also shared a new Buffalo initiative with child protective services that are having many workers retiring and have turned to the System of Care Site’s Cultural Coordinator to make sure that when they replace workers they will represent the cultural and linguistic balance of the community.  This represents an excellent collaboration.

  • Gary Blau was asked about Terry Cline, the new SAMHSA Administrator, and responded warmly reminding us that Dr Cline was a Children’s Services person.  He has been scheduled for 70 briefings on areas within SAMHSA.  He has been encouraging to Kathryn and the branch about the focus of their efforts.  He is a man of integrity and dedication.  Holly Echo Hawk shared the pivotal role he had in the state of Oklahoma and relationships with tribal communities.

  • Dolores Jimerson & Terry Cross shared that NICWA will be having its meeting with Tribal Communities which will include 3 Circle of Care Sites and all the TA partners will be there as well.  Gary and several branch representatives will also be in attendance.

  • Holly Echo Hawk updated the CCC on the Tribal Policy Summit on Suicide Prevention and Healing.  She described the project as having lots of energy and reaching out to communities who need help.  Holly also shared that Oklahoma is increasing the partnership between tribes and states by having tribal input on hiring Terry Cline’s replacement.

  • Kate Pahinui reminded us that state family networks are working diligently on their applications and still do not know the number that will be funded.  She thanked all the TA partners for their collaborative support efforts.  Kate also shared that the National Strategic Plan being completed in conjunction with the Federation of Families is in process. Gary Mac Beth added that 4 partners are involved in the Strategic Planning which includes UACC, Federation of Families, Tap and Georgetown.
